As a cowboy for Waggoners, Dew grew a love and appreciation for a good pair of boots. He has done leather work since he was 14 years old, starting with an industrial arts program in school.

He has always worked with leather in some form or fashion ever since and as a cowboy made most of his own gear. His passion for custom boots started with his first handmade pair. The mentorship of late craftsman Carl Chappel, of Saint Jo, Texas, furthered his skills in custom boot creation.
